Helpful pictureAlthough we had totally different conditions (snow and clouds) yesterday. I found this picture helpful to gain the ridge. Thanks for posting.

Re: Helpful pictureThat was an awesome effort you made. It was tough enough without snow but with snow, that is a different kind of ball game. We actually took the treeline to the left going up and pretty much came down in the center on the descent. Everything moved so we renamed the mountain "Cairn mountain" and also "pile of crap mountain" Still, the views were superb from the summit. Were you able to find the register in the snow?

Re: Helpful pictureThanks, if the snow was a little more it would have been easier but still I think the snow was holding the the rocks somewhat together. We didn't find a register up on the summit, unfortunately neither did we have a view. It was my first time in the Wallowas and despite the weather still enjoyed it.

We went up the gullyto the south (right) of that gendarme on the far right of this picture. It required the least amount of time scramling up the terrible side of this thing, and the ridge traverse was easy. The only part of this approach that wasnt straight forward is you have to climb under the gendarme along its east base, which required an additional 50-100 feet of elevation gain, small potatoes when compared to taking the "right up the side route".
