A nice short and worthwhile hike with a fantastic view as reward.

Prelude to Sister
Exact date a guess. I was working at a drill rig near Bend, and had some off-time while the well was cased. We met a great fellow on top, who convinced us to climb South Sister with him later on.

Tumalo Mountain Trail
Snowshoed up the approximate route of the Tumalo Mountain Trail, never felt like I was on a trail though. Conditions were; 5 feet of deep soft snow, had to break trail the entire way, moderate snow falling with white out conditions and high winds at summit. Trip took 3.60 hours round trip.

Great views
Snowshoed from dutch flats, perfect weather, some amazing views of the sisters and broken top.

Approximate trail
Solo hike. Beautiful day, temps in the 50's and sunny, little wind. About a foot of snow on average. Started on the trail but lost that early on, then just took the path of least resistance heading slightly NE following some bootpaths. Found the trail just before the summit. There was a guy on the summit preparing to ski down the N face with his dog, so I watched him do that (looks seriously fun) and headed down. Up in an hour, down in 30 minutes. Great day.

Had the day off from work so made the 30 minute drive from bend and did a quick little morning hike, could see as far south as Mt Scott.

I had a nice jaunt up this little guy while my wife was in a business meeting in Bend. I couldn't help but have elevation envy when looking at Bachelor on the way down, next time. It was sunny and windy with nice views on all four points of the compass.

Quick early morning solo hike. Drank too many Twilight Ales the night before and this was a great way to sweat them out. Clear skies and nobody on the trail - all in all, a great morning in Central Oregon.
Route Climbed: Duchman Flats Snowshoe Scramble Date Climbed: March 30th 2005
Shared the duty of "Breaking Trail" with a trailhead acquaintance. Knee deep snow seemed a bit heavier than this area usually has to offer. The top was breezy with a mix of snow, sun, & fog.
Route Climbed: North Side Date Climbed: December 2003
Took off with 2 beginner showshoers and had a wonderful hike through the trees untill we got into the open section of the trail. There we ran into whipping winds which made it not so fun without goggles. We all had a great time. We did have to tire through some thigh deep powder until we found the well used path.

I did this little hike on snowshoes. Nice views from the sisters and broken top down to thielsen . Views to the north were pretty nonexistant due to clouds. I saw 3 other groups who were all on skis and even two guys on snowmobiles at the summit. this is a pretty fun snowshoe climb but the noise from all the snowmobiles below kind of detracted from the experience a little.
Route Climbed: Cross country from Dutchman Flat SnoPark Date Climbed: March 3, 2003
Another quick snowshoe trip from the snopark, but this time there were views on top. The clouds would occasionally break enough to see Broken Top and the Three Sisters. Mt. Bachelor was bathed in sunlight a few times. Bend could even be seen below the cloud ceiling.
Route Climbed: Cross country from Dutchman Flat SnoPark Date Climbed: January 13, 2003
A short jaunt on snowshoes from the Dutchman Flat SnoPark to low visibility and no views on top. A few skiers were making turns in the cirque. Foot-thick rime ice coated the trees near the summit.
Fun snowshoe hike. Rime-ice on trees as you approach the top makes for an eerie looking maze =) Ran into a couple of teleskiers at the top... looked at my snowshoes and envied their descent.
