Tyn-y-Llyn

Tyn-y-Llyn, Cors Caron, Cambrian Mountains (November 2008) Tyn-y-Llyn is a small pond on Cors Caron, an 816 acre raised bog in the Cambrian Mountains. Up until the second half of the Twentieth Century peat bogs such as the Cors Caron were cut and harvested by local people , who would burn the peat as fuel. This practice left several large depressions in Cors Caron, which over time became ponds such as this one. The practice of peat cutting is now banned on Cors Caron as it has resulted in the loss of a considerable area of natural habitat. In 1955 the bog was designated as a national nature reserve and has since been given protection as a Special Area of Conservation and Ramsar site.
