Great topo

This photo is invaluable for finding the easy way to the upper notch. Although I tried the "5.2 Crux" labeled line in the photo, my partner and I thought that going around the back side of the W Face as viewed in your topo (and described on Bob Burd's route page) was easier although more exposed. Although we had no trouble scrambling up to the crux from the U-notch we ended up returning for a rope and gear for the upper 20' of 4th-5th class and enjoyed rapping it instead of downclimbing it. A 30M rope was just sufficient for both.
