First day acclimatization climb
Straightforward from base camp. Snow was perfect texture to not need crampons.

Urus Este
Good weather. Fresh icy snow during the night made the short rocky passage before the glacier more difficult in the ascend and descend. Snow on the glacier was soft and mushy. Start at 4:30am, 3h45 to summit and 2h to descend. Only one other rope team on the mountain.

Urus
Quite the windy day. Other than that, a good, straightforward climb. Snow was powdery, creating more work. Decent was a beating down the steep, loose rocked, sometimes muddy route in which the valley never seemed to get any closer, lol. Lots of climbers on the MT this day.

First Peruvian Summit
Absolutely terrible weather in the Ishinca Valley but we managed to at least get on top of Urus! An easy and absolutely beautiful climb..

first mountain on our Peru 2016 trip, great start! and the best of all, we were alone.

Standard Route
Due to being very sick, the summit ending was a bit of a struggle. I had to rest near the Refugio for a few days. In addition to this I had never been to 17K before. This is a great warm up peak for the Peruvian Andes. The views were outstanding!

Short day
Carried our boots in our packs and wore runners up to the snow line (~16.5k if I remember correctly). Perfect for our first peak in Peru, short and steep and close to basecamp.

good acclimatisation climb
Nice view from the summit. Very fun climb.
July 2013 was very stable weatherwise in the Cordillera Blanca. Our team managed to climb Urus, Ichinca, Toclaraju (through the Bergshrund route), Huascaran Sul and Chopicalqui. We had to abandon halfway up the Pisco due to very bad weather.

The Tourist Route
As mentioned previously, not the most exciting mountain but a good acclimatisation peak with decent views and not too tiring. Conditions were good allowing my partner and I to be back to the tent at base camp in around five and a half hours at a very steady pace.

Variation of the Normal Route
Took a detour a little to the left of the normal route, following a buttress, just for a little more fun. Decent acclmatization, but not very fun.

Kind of Chato
Long hike up a ridge from the Ishinca valley to a very short, crevasse-free snow field. As an acclimation peak or for a first-time it's cool, but Vallunaraju and Ishinca are more fun.
