Groapa Ruginoasa

The thing's quite unusual. Do you think you could find some info about its origin, perhaps in some Hungarian hiking magazines? I guess the local geology must be behind it, have tried to google but to little avail. It seems the "badland" has been growing rapidly for the last 80 years.

Hi Jacek, I didn't find much valuable information in the Hungarian internet sources, and not even in my geography books. There are sources saying that the intense erosion process started 80 years ago. But another source says that it's not true because according to the military maps surveyed in the mid of the 19th century the gorge covered practically the same area as today. As a proof a copy of the referred map was attached. So if the erosion is really intense (what seems to be the case based on its look) then it must be rather vertical than horizontal. Cheers, Szani
