Nice shot -And are you allowed down there? I thought white house ruins were the only ones you were allowed to hike to....

Re: Nice shot -The white house ruins and trail are the only places in the Canyon de Chelle people can go with out a Navajo guide. However, you can travel in the canyon with a Navajo guide.
I spent 5 days in Canyon de Chelle, with an organized group, camping and hiking. We camped on our guides family land, where she grew up.
The Navajo run tours in the Canyon for tourists; mostly large four wheel drive open air buses. They are called "shake and bakes." Very loud and unpleasant.

Ah!Thanks for the clarification. I remember looking at Spider Rock from that overlook but didn't get to check it out from below. But I hear the route's pretty dicey, 5.9 A3 or something similar. Hope you had a cool time down there.

Re: Ah!Climbing is not allowed on Spider Rock. When I was there, I saw the remains of some climbing ropes on the rock. Our guide said the rangers caught some people climbing it and made them come down.
I had a wonderful time in Canyon de Chelle and would like to spend some more time there.

YepBut I know some folks who've climbed it, all the same. Although it's dangerous in more ways than one. For example, the Navajos have a tendency to "confiscate" the gear of climbers upon occasion....

What a shame!...that it's off limits. Probably the best towers are off limits :(
Great shot though!

Thanks! As I think any routes on Spider Rock would be way beyond my limits, I didn't really mind it being off limits . . .I spent a lot of time looking at the possible routes and they all looked way hard...
