View of Pico de Orizaba from the northwest, at about elevation 10700 feet, on the road to the Piedra Grande Hut. The linear distance to the summit from this viewpoint is about 4.9 miles. The long 30-to-40-degree slope on the north (left) side of the volcano is the Jamapa Glacier, the route we took to the summit the following day. Photo taken 08 January 2006.
