What is the Access here?

Hey Paul,

Just curious how you accessed this "peak" (Porter Peak). Like to check it out sometime.

Thanks

Re: What is the Access here?

Porter Peak (Pk 4760+, 520P) is actually kind of a pain to get to but this is the easiest way:

Drive Mosquito Lake Road to FR-38 (the road up Nooksack River)

Take a left at Clearwater Creek. Go left at this fork (uphill spur) until you cannot drive it any farther (maybe after about a mile). Walk (or bike would be better) the remainder of the road to about here (3,600 ft). You can stay on the road as it goes diagonally left up to the crest or leave the road and go straight up to Pt. 4759. Porter Peak is Pk 4760+ 1.4 miles to the WNW. There are some logging roads along the ridge. The final crest to the summit is through some tight-ass trees (with short wall on the north side). The summit is treed and the view provided by this picture was found in an opening a few feet below it. I would not do Porter as anything other than a good winter snowshoe. A shorter approach might be from the north from Canyon Lake/Creek.
