Is subalpine zone

in the Prokletije a little bit different from that in the Carpathians?

Yes, and it's very interesting despite being damaged by humans over centuries, or rather millennia: Probably no Arolla pines near the tree line, the Bosnian pine instead, some mugo pine too. The grass high up there was so sharp that I – while climbing the main massif of the Karanfili – very quickly gave up the idea of using the grass as handholds.
