The true summit from the East...

The true summit from the East Summit. The keyhole is the horizontal slab in the middle of the picture. It wasn't hard to get to the keyhole from the summit I was on, but to get to the top of the summit block was a pretty hairy high 5th class climb. August, 2005

vegetation

Is that vegetation I see in this photo at 13,500 ft. +/-? How can this be? No plant life could survive at this elevation. Could someone please explain....?

Re: vegetation

yup. it sure is! this is around 12,000 ft. the sierra has some beautiful surprises, sometimes! polemonium, in particular, thrives all the way up to 14,000 ft.
