This spire dominates the cirque wall surrounding Emmaline Lake (October 4, 2003). It looks like it might be a fun “extra credit” climb – probably class 4 or harder from the bottom and a class 3 with lots of exposure from the top of the ridge. Hey Andy...

Do you know if that sucker has a name? I'm having a bit of trouble with the scale of that pinnacle, how high do you think it sweeps up from the ridge?

Re: Hey Andy...

There is no name on any of the maps I have. From this angle, it's probably several hundred feet to the cirque floor below. However, if you wrap around to the right, it's probably 150 feet straight up. From the ridge it probably drops 50 feet or so and then climbs up another 50 feet. I'm totally guessing here about the measurements though. Don't hold me to it. I've got a couple more photos of this guy that I'll submit later tonight or tomorrow morning.

This is a technical climb

I do not know the name of this sprire either. I was able to climb this spire from Emaline lake last weekend, it was amazing but WARNING! It begins as an easy scramble but as you near the top there are several short sections of very exposed Class 5 climbing. Most of the rock is stable but watch out for loose stones. To attempt this climb from the bottom or ridge requires technical climbing technique unless someone has found a better route? From the ridge the spires summit blocks require ascending and descending 6'-12' faces starting or landing on a 24" wide ridge which leaves no room for a slip. In my opinion this should not be attempted without technical gear.
