The view of Mt. St. Helens from the Monitor Ridge Trailhead (Climber's Bivouac) on September 28, 1992. Look at all that ash! Not a pleasant thing to hike in. If you have a choice, climb St. Helens when it's snowcovered.

Wow

That view is totally different now. Those trees are about 100' taller, the circle is now paved (but the road still is not) and there are toilets!

What a difference 18 years does.

Interesting. But not surprising. This photo is also useful for me as a reminder of one that shows my old Honda so thanks for bringing this picture to my attention. Mt. St. Helens blew its top and my Honda blew its top gear.

And of course 1992 was before the days of Trail Park passes; but the St. Helens permit system was already in effect.
