Cool rock ...Is that dolomite? At first glance, I'm
questioning where the footholds would be, or
does the climber depend completely on ropes???
What an awesome rock and incredible picture!

Re: Cool rock ...Actually, it looks like kind of sandstone from a distance.

Re: Cool rock ...thanks Larry. no, not dolomite. meteora in greece - conglomerate type rock with much "knobs" that are just not visible at this dist.

Re: Cool rock ...it's not sandstone; it's some sort of conglomerate rock. think about non-uniform gravel embedded in a concrete...
thanks for visiting

Re: Cool rock ...Well, anyway the rock is much closer to sandstone and there must be a lot of silica/quartz in it, not calcium. Thanks for the pic and extra info.

Re: Cool rock ...you're probably right - I should've mentioned that I'm not a geologist before speaking with such authority :)

Re: Cool rock ...I have a great idea! Why don't we all discuss
this down at the local tavern?
Hey, my drink seems to have too much silica
and quartz in it.
I'm assuming that one of you guys will have
to drive me home ??? : ))))))

Re: Cool rock ...To most SP'ers, it's how the rock feels to the touch that's more important than the geological details, I think:-)
Happy climbing!

Re: Cool rock ...To Larry,
No problem Larry providing you've got automatic transmission, which is to be expected of US road-users (???) With manual, you'd better climb the crag in the pic here - should be much safer!:)))
