Klein Vallüla summit cairn

Klein Vallüla summit cairn

Every little bump in the Alps has been climbed of course, so it's no surprising to find a cairn on top of Klein Vallüla, which has a prominence of well over 100m. Yet, as I made my way up, I did not see any markers or even traces of people having gone there before, proving that Klein Vallüla is rarely climbed. In hindsight, I can't say I'm surprised. Its next door neighbor, Vallüla, is 170m higher and in addition it has an interesting route to the summit. While the views from Klein Vallüla were nice, about the route I took to get up there the best thing I can say is that I enjoyed the puzzle of finding it. It was a combination of off trail hiking on scree and steep grassy slopes, and the occasional bit of scrambling on rocks that were not always particularly solid. However, I didn't know that before I went up though, all the information I had was its name on the map, located conveniently between the Bielerspitze and Vallüla. And since I first wanted to hike up the Bielerspitze and then climb Vallüla, I figured I might add Klein Vallüla as well. 21 July 2013.
