From above Monogram Lake in February: Eldorado Peak is on the center skyline. The
West Arete leads straight up to the summit. The Triad is on the right edge of the photo; to its left is the saddle you pass through from the Eldorado Glacier, then drop down the unnamed glacier on this side and traverse to the foot of the arete.
A bit of irrelevant trivia: On this weekend snowshoe trip, Don Van Hook and I returned down the endless switchbacks of the Monogram Lake / Lookout Mountain trail to find a set of cougar tracks running straight down the center of the switchbacks. They must have been from Saturday, after we'd gone up, because while we were skittering down on a hard crust, the cougar had plunged chest-deep with every step.
