Looking down the Avigna Valley from Piz Sesvenna

24 Aug 2014. North east of Piz Sesvenna lies the Sesvenna refuge, which is where I have started out this morning. It's the southernmost mountain refuge in the Sesvenna Group, leaving a big area without a place to spend the night. Since I want to explore that area, I'm packing a tent. I plan on camping in the upper Avigna Valley tonight, south of Piz Bernina, somewhere near the Italian-Swiss border. To get there, I first have to scramble down the east ridge to the saddle with Foratrida, and then descend the big scree slope to the south, visible on the right side of this image. Unfortunately the scree will turn out to be hard work, as it is the ankle twisting medium sized stuff. But at least there is a (steep and strenuous) trail. 24 Aug 2014.
