West Slope Route - Google Earth Overview

Google Earth overview of the West Slope Route for Little Chief Mountain. Some important landmarks: 1. St. Mary Falls Trailhead on Going-to-the-Sun Road 2. St. Mary Falls, ~0.8 miles from trailhead 3. Virginia Falls, ~1.5 miles from trailhead. The YELLOW LINE follows the route off-trail on game trails through thick forest until breaking out of the forest on the west slope. 4. Algal reef, a prominent band of smooth grey rock that wraps across the west slope above 7,500 feet. Once the top of the algal reef is gained, game trails can be followed to the south.
