Virgin Forest
Almost all of the Great Smoky Mountains were logged out before they became a park. There are only a few stands of virgin forest remaining among all the second-growth.
This one is probably the easiest to get to. Follow the crowds to Laurel Falls, and then keep going about a half mile above the falls.
The mood changes when you're here. Old growth is different.
