A Month Of Volcanoes
I spent a month climbing volcanoes. Irazu and Buenavista were the only total drive up peaks. Other peaks I bagged on this trip include...
Mexico:
Volcán La Malinche, Cofre de Perote, Pico de Orizaba (country highpoint, 3rd highest in North America), Volcán Iztaccíhuatl, Pico de Aguila, Nevado de Toluca, Cerro de Ombugo, Pico de Humboldt, Nevado de Colima, Cerro Tancitaro
Guatemala:
Volcán Pacaya, Volcán Tajumulco (country highpoint, 24th most prominent peak on earth), Volcán Concepción, Volcán Tacaná (2nd highest in Central America), Cerro Chemal "La Torre", Cerro Chemal "Cerro los Cuervos", Montañas Peña Blanca, Volcán Santa María, Volcán Atitlán, Volcán Acatenango
Costa Rica:
Volcán Poás, Volcán Barva, Cerro Chirripó (country highpoint, 36th most prominent on earth), Cerro Piramide, Cerro Terbi, Cerro Buenavista

Irazu
Hiked up from the crater overlook trailhead after checking out the crater. Pretty easy day for an ultra prominence peak. Great weather and clear views. Pretty sweet. Did Cerro Buenavista later in the day, another p2k in Costa Rica.
Went up to Volcan Irazu as part of a tour in October 2009 and found it disappointing as the clouds blocked the view of the craters. The best I saw was vaguely viewing the crater lake when the clouds slightly thinned out for a brief amount of seconds.

The road
Went with Bennovak on a dirtdevil trip to Costa Rica. Good climb, good view, great coffee. Take a break and throw some dice at the Blue Marlin afterwords...You deserve it.

You can drive right to the top of this thing. The challenge is not physical, it is mental. Costa Rican roads are pretty bad, signage is non existant, and there are some rental-car-roadside-assistance robberies to look out for. But the view of the irridecent sewage green lake from the summit on a clear day makes the trip well worth while.

Clouds andcrowds. No complaint about the latter, though since a bunch of them were my dear friends
