First of three peak day including Pettit and Piute with Tommey. Unlike JD, we were camped at Seavey Pass and it was still a big day.

From PCT
From the PCT, took the trail junction toward Rodgers Lake, then climbed the Volunteer/Pettit ridge and eventually came down a northeast chute from Volunteer to the PCT, thus bypassing Smedberg Lake. Volunteer was easy, but the traverse to Pettit was tedious.
I climbed Volunteer Peak during my 2012 thru hike.

Twin Lakes
A very long two day trip from Twin Lakes. Camped at the highest lake north Pettit, then up to watch the sunrise on the summit. Then over to Volunteer and Piute, rained pretty much the entire way out. Thought Pettit was a good deal more interesting than Volunteer.

From Smedberg Lake
Ultralight overnighter out of Twin Lakes. Took 11h via Horse Creek Pass, Matterhorn Pass, Benson Pass. Then on to Pettit. Bivied at Rodgers Lake. The next day went to Benson Lake and climbed Piute. Hiked out through Kerrick Canyon and Peeler Lake in rain and snowfall. Beautiful fall colors. One of the most beautiful areas in the Sierra.

SW Ridge
Climbed the SW Ridge from the PCT/Rogers Lake trail junction as part of a 10-day backpacking trip from Leavitt Meadows to Toulumne Meadows. Fun climb, terrific weather & great views.

A very long, very hot, very tiring dayhike out of Virginia Lakes--50 miles, 12,100 ft gain. Somehow this ended up being an even tougher outing than the Milestone/Midway dayhike the weekend before. That final climb out of Virginia Canyon back to Virginia Lakes was kind of brutal. But other than that, I enjoyed myself.

From camp at Seavey PassA splendid dayhike from Seavey Pass. This area is certainly a bit far flung, but it's well worth the visit. Easy scramble from just off the PCT.
