West Elk Peak  Sucess!

September 3 2022

Kim and I started from the Mill Castle Trailhead and hiked up to 11,260 feet in Mill Creek before setting up camp. The hike sure was beautiful and was one of the most scenic approaches that I have done in Colorado. The castle like rocks were really impressive.

Kim didn't sleep well, so I set off alone to climb West Elk Peak. It was another really scenic hike. I also climbed Goat Peak (Peak 12,968) along the way. I met two others on the mountain. After enjoying the summit, I headed back to camp and we hiked back to the trailhead. It was a great trip.

Milestone Summit  Sucess!

With Rachael, #500/584 on 13ers for me and a great peak to reach such a milestone given the tremendous views of 13ers in every direction! Past peak on fall color, but still a beautiful hike, the cliff walls above the approach trail were spectacular.

Route Climbed: Mill Creek Route Date Climbed: July 2, 2003  Sucess!

This was a lovely hike. I can't imagine a more idylic valley then that of Mill Creek. Two days before this I hiked up the more popular Snowmass Creek yet I found this drainage much more profound. The Castles are everything you could imagine. My photos do not give them justice. If I was smart I would have arainged things so I was at Storm Pass at either the early morning or at dusk to get light that better illuminates those serene pinnacles... Whatever the case I had fune here... And after my 18.5 mile hike I kicked back with a bottle of Hornitos to get rather pickled.

Cheers.
