Fine Early Fall Day
33rd ADK high peak after Esther earlier in the morning. Descended the south trail to Connery Pond. Very steep descent. Perfect early fall weather with great visibility. Trails largely deserted, crowded on top.

I climbed this peak on the 1 year anniversary of my Dad, Len Sucheski's passing. This one is for you Dad. Clear skies all day, and a great sunset to end it.

Sunny Hike on Whiteface
Hiked in from ASRC in sneakers, temps and sun were warm. Great clear views from empty summit. Descended via ice crusted Toll Rd. Best time of year to avoid the crowds!

I climbed this one after doing Esther. I felt like I was storming a castle when I got to the tall stone wall supporting the auto road. The people eating lunch at the summit building who had driven up the auto road looked at me like I was nuts. Great view from the top though.

Good view from the top
I'll admit, I kind of cheated on this one. Instead of climbing from a trailhead, I wanted to set aside some time to see the town. So...I took the road up to the parking lot.
But, there is a twist. I went up the tourist walkway to the summit, but headed down the Wilmington trail to where it meets the road 450 ft below. Then, back up to the summit up the very same trail, just to get the feel of walking the more alpine parts of Whiteface. In all, about 800ft vertical gain.

I also paired up with Esther on this day.It was raining cats and dogs the whole time.I arrived at the summit of Whiteface at 7pm,then hiked the highway down.I'll have to return to get the jist of the views. It was nice being all alone on the foggy giant ,though...Jim w

Got the peak, didn't get the views
I went from Connery Pond/Whiteface Landing. I like this trail much better than the Wilmington trail. It's pretty level all the way to the lean-to, then you march up the mountain. There was no mud, or slick rock, or overly rocky trail to be dealt with, which is a rarity in the Daks. I liked going up the rock above treeline to the summit, it reminded me a lot of a NH mountain. Not that many people at all for a saturday. It was a cloudy day, but no rain.

Whiteface Mountain
Climbed via the Wilmington Trail from the Wilmington Reservoir. It must have been the hottest day of the year. There were crouds swarming around the summit but we were just trying to cool off. We were almost tempted to catch a ride down but stuck it out in the end. Ran out of water during the last mile back to Wilmington.
