Long
Wasted a lot of time trying to do the Windy Creek Trail from Chewuch TH. The trail is no longer there near the creek crossing. Fire and regrowth claimed it. Wasted about two miles and an hour and a half looking for it. Finally went back down the road to where I camped at Long Swamp and went up from that Trailhead. Long hike with lots of ups and downs but scenic. Summit register could use replacing.

South Ridge
Easy cross country hike directly up the south ridge. Chilly, windy summit (who would of thought!). 4 hours round trip taking it easy
Most difficult part of the day was the drive. I used the Windy Creek Trail, which can be followed all the way to the summit. It was a nice trail through a burn, though by the time I was finished, I had grown a little tired of the constant burnt trees. For me, a few miles of burn is great, but 10 miles becomes a little much.
As of July 15, the peak is in a restricted zone due to a fire NE. Only the very peak is in the restricted zone and when I climbed it, it was clear and smoke free at the top. There had been many other parties that had climbed it since it became restricted as well.

Nice little workout
Went up via Windy Creek which is the easiest route up Windy Peak. The trail was in okay shape with a few swampy spots. The breeze up top felt good.

Via Windy Creek
Went with Eastking, Josh and our dog Rex. Burned views nearby and distant high peaks on every horizon. I carried nearly two gallons of water for training but ended up sharing most of it on the descent. The day started cool and warmed up to near record heat by mid-afternoon. Thankfully we were down at the TH by that point.

Via Windy Creek
Josh Lewis, Mike Lewis and I did it on a clear but hot day. Luckily we did most of the ascending on the cool morning. Views on this summit are excellent of the distant Sawtooths and Cascade Crest on a clear day. Trail is becoming overgrown and the route needs more hikers.

Iron Gate loop
Lovely clear day spent climbing Windy from Iron Gate TH, scrambled up the south summit ridge, then down the north, past Windy lake and back over Sunny Pass to end at Iron Gate, a long seeming 15+ mile hike, with the mountain to myself.
After hiking up Amphitheater, Cathedral, and Remmel in a 3 day trip, Heather and I decided to go for Windy as well before leaving the area. It was a very hot day and we didn't get to the trailhead until noon. The trail is still in shape enough to follow but it is overgrown in a few spots.

Windy Peak
Climbed on the way out from a backpacking trip to Horseshoe Basin, which was beautiful, but filled with hordes of mosquitos.
Was actually headed to Horseshoe Basin and accidentally parked at the Windy Peak TH instead of the Iron Gate, so we decided to just go with it and tag Windy on our way in. Snow free on the way in, trail is hard to follow in places. Look for orange tape on a tree about 3 miles in where you need to cross the creek. On the way out July 23rd it snowed an inch or snow while we were on the mountain.
Saw a good sized bear, route flagged, but hard to follow in spots.

Fantastic hike w/snow
Harder to navigate trail from Sunny Pass in snow, especially first quarter of a mile. Stay low, but not low enough that you will hit a marsh area. All in all, a great hike. I was a TA for Wendy Walker's Spring Block this year 2009 - awesome D_shorb!
Went up the Windy Creek trail. The trail is overgrown in a few spots, but you can still tell where it should be from the sawed off trees for the trail. The burn area is a nice contrast of bright green brush/flowers and black trees. Beautiful day, sunny skies, no wind and warm at the top.

Day Trip on a NOLS Outing
True to its name, it was hard to stand up atop the peak. There were several large fires burning in the north Paseyten Wilderness. A great place to view Mt. Diablo and Mt. Robinson. At Silver lake we gorged on blueberries and made friends with the mosquitoes.
