Took the boat trip out and strolled up to the top. More popular than this climber's log would suggest

Lucked out before the close!
Schedule changes the last week they are open, and we got a ride to the island 4 days before the last boat ride.

got a ticket!
Nice hike / boat combo. Try to call for your boat ticket reservation a month in advance to avoid stress and possible disappointment. We got lucky and snagged ours from some of the limited first come first serve tickets which come available each day at the electronic kiosk down at the entrance gift shop on south side. Also you can sit on standby at bottom of trail but that would take some luck and you might go alone.
Hike is not the most scenic but still highly memorable.... Christians have father/son/holy ghost, Muslims have Mecca /Medina/Dome of Rock; but Oregon has it's own holy trilogy of Wy-East summit(Hood), this the Mazama Caldera of Wizard Island, and of course Voodoo Doughnuts in oldtown Portland. All worthy objectives in their own right.

Unique experience
Highly suggest taking this hike and trip to Wizard Island if you are exploring Crater Lake. By the ranger station at the dock, there is a 25ft cliff you can jump off, very fun!

Excellent Experience
This was a very memorable experience. Standing on the rim of a crater on top of a mountain, in a giant crater of a bigger mountain.
