Working up the 5th class...

Working up the 5th class terrain described by Grandwazoo. Halfway up the second crack there is one 5.6 move that leads you to the top. Whatever courage I thought I had quickly evaporated with freezing winds and numb fingers. The standard route around the east side of the summit tower began to look like a lot more fun. October 8, 2005.

You're right, from the angle of the picture that lower section does look sketchy. The holds were actually very large and well spaced; it's the upper crack that got to me. There was one move about seven feet up that I couldn't get myself to do without the security of a rope or better conditions (very windy, very cold).



I'll play around with it next summer--rope included!

Nice shot

Sometimes it's easy to get into low 5th class on the Class 3-4 scrambles. Often large blocky moves with exposure are still 4th. Regardless, it's a nice action shot.
