Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne

First trip to Yosemite and had an incredible time on a three night backpack trip through the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne! We started on the east side of the divide, outside the park, then went over the top and down the canyon, ending our trip at White Wolf. Make sure to have your last night part way up the climb out, at an amazing viewpoint/campsite next to Morrison Creek, with an awesome view out toward Hetch Hetchy. An excellent hike and great introduction to Yosemite for yours truly!!

Take your breath away views!

We did the Mist Trail to Vernal and Nevada Falls.
Amazing!
Vernal Falls is a great option if you don't want to hike all the way up to Nevada Falls.
You still get a great view from here.
There will be a lot more people here than at Nevada.
Many stairs/steps up.
You can get wet from the mist.

God's. Own. Canvas.  Sucess!

Just got back and still mildly euphoric. Could be a lingering contact high from the hippies that camped next to us, smoking copious pounds of hippie cabbage OR it could be a hangover from the "Holy Crap that's pretty" sensation literally every step of my visit. Not sure which but it was great. High lakes, snow fields and unnamed granite domes all to yourself.

Perfect....

Okay, the mosquitos kinda sucked.

Changed the way I saw and experienced mountains  Sucess!

No valley quite like this one. Been from one end of the park to the other, and it is a wonderful place... but tougher to escape the maddening crowds these days.

All Sorts of Climbing  Sucess!

Have been here plenty of times to rock climb and mountaineer; prefer the Tuolumne side.

First Trip-June 2017  Sucess!

With a high water year the waterfalls were huge! A great late spring to be in Yosemite. Few landscapes are as sublime as Yosemite Valley.

Mountains, Rock, It has it all  Sucess!

Pretty but crowded  Sucess!

We came once in the winter to just admire the cliffs around Yosemite Valley from below, and then came a few years later in the summer for Half Dome / Mariposa Grove / Tuolumne Meadows hikes. While the scenery was very nice, the crowds detracted from the experience a bit (we just need to go back when its less busy and visit some of the lesser-known places).

Second Highest Peak  Sucess!

Climbed Mount Dana with my father and uncle, then did Lembert Dome with my uncle and younger brother the same day. Man, that was one tiring day, believe you me, but unquestionably worth it. I plan to return here in the future, for there are many lofty peaks that I have yet to climb.

Beauty attracts crowds   Sucess!

A full two days visiting the park and we didn't scratch the surface. But the beauty of the place is no guarantee to relax. At least not for everyone; a lady called me an idiot for just parallel parking in fron of her car. I guess she's never seen anyone parallel park before.

Every year often more than once.

Only once as a small child, but many times as an adult thanks to it being the favorite place of my wife's extended family. Weddings here are hard to beat as a guest.

A Lifetime

Like Bubba Suess, my family over three generations has a long history of visiting this place. I attended the Yosemite Mountaineering School in my teens. Ice skated numerous winters on the winter rink. Hitchhiked on every road. Camped with the Boy Scouts. And even been a part of an archaeological dig.

Tioga Pass & Yosemite  Sucess!

Entered Yosemite @ Tioga Pass; I remember being amazed by driving above 3000meters by car... This is unthinkable in the European Alps. Great place.

First time in Yosemite  Sucess!

Had some successes and some failures and learned a lot. I took a 50 foot fall while practicing aid climbing on the first pitch of Pacific Ocean Wall. Thankfully I was not hurt, just a bit shook up. I had 4 pieces blow on me and though I was going to die. Watch out for those yellow c3s!!! I put way too much faith in them. We ended up getting booted out of camp 4 when the park shut down. Met alot of cool people from all over the world.

since I was a whipper snapper

Camped at Camp 4 as a teen. I've returned to the park many times over the years, both to the Valley and the high country - solo and with family and friends. Truly one of Earth's natural wonders.
