Route Climbed: normal route from Stubai ski resort Date Climbed: May 5th 1995
As it is usual in spring we took the cablecars to the Eisgrat and had a downhill on the ski run to the beginning of the ascent which brought us over the Pfaffenferner glacier to the Pfaffenjoch and then passing the summit on the north side to the Pfaffensattel. The final ascent was steep but nice to do with crampons. After climbing Wilder Pfaff in addition we skied down the Sulzenauferner (many crevasses!) to the Sulzenau hut where we stayed the night before climbing Wilder Freiger the next day.
I haven't seen a cloud in these days, only blue sky. Watching the first flowers after coming down from the heights is always amazing.
Route Climbed: normal route via pfaffensattel Date Climbed: august 2001
From the Pfaffensattel to the summit, skipping the last section with the ropes because it was very crowded, did a scramble up the north side of the peak instead. When I was there, the summitcross was still on the summit, although it was lying on it's side (made a nice bench to sit on :). I understand that later this year it was entirely gone.. Maybe a storm or some joker tossed it into the deep?
On the way down, again trying to skip the crowded passage from snow into the last rock part... this turned out to be quite an operation :-)
Did the Wilder Pfaff (love those Austrain names!) on the way back, it's a quick walk up.
