I wasn't gong to do a trip report but then I see how lonely the slide mountain page is and frankly I have nothing else to do. Its been frigidly cold for some time and i've felt pretty cooped up in my apartment as of late so when weather finally broke it was time to strap on some snow shoes and hit the trails. There is a new company in town that organizes day trips with transportation out of city so we hopped on one 2hrs north and were joined by a group of international folks as we hit up Slide Mountain. Slide mountain is the highest point in the Catskills and there is a variety of trails you can take to reach summit, we used at least 4 on this 6 mile roundtrip journey. The weather was lovely 40 degrees or so and sunny on way up.
The snow was compact on the more popular trails and perfect sized on the others. You get some decent views as you get higher
Joined by my cousin on this trek we took the obligatory summit shot
The Group
You seen a lake in distance
It got overcast and colder on way down but still pleasant enough
Took a trickier path down sometimes it was steep that made snowshoeing awkward and I slipped a couple times risking turning something but luckily did not happen
cool bridge crossing
be careful on icy "river" crossing
anyways fun day trip from NYC
