Since we live at only about 1000 feet sea level my wife and I took a few days hiking some of the easier trails in the park to acclimate before attempting Long's. We had the entire Lake and trail ourselves.

the best time

so peaceful. These nice and quiet days are for me better than hiking in the line to any mountain.

You are absolutely right. Days like these are food for the soul whereas summit days are more like adrenaline rush days
