You get what you pay forThe end caps are glued on, and apparently the adhesive is not rated for extreme temperatures, so cooking on top of these is not recommended. However, they make reasonable seats :)
Like the Garcia canisters, the top opens up via three latches which can be operated via a coin or something similar.
I bought mine a number of years ago as part of a group discount deal; since then Wild Ideas has raised the single-unit price by $30. You can also rent these from the company or from some of the national parks.
