As Thuraya claims, "The SG-2520 is the only satellite smartphone in existence". Works in Thuraya's coverage area (see links below), and outside it through roaming system. Also functions with a GSM SIM card as an ordinary cellular phone. A new coverage area (planned by the end of 2007) will extend Thuraya's services into China, Indonesia, Australia.
Thuraya recently released a cheap tariff prepaid SIM-card, called ThurayaECO, with fixed call rates to landlines/cellular phones for 0.39 USD per minute (only for calls originating from 83 pre-specified countries).

Yes, I own a SG-2520 and so far I'm satisfied. The initial software version has some growing pains (I've had phone crashing twice), hopefully these will be removed by the upgrades.

UnbelievableSuperb voice quality. Loads of extras. I recommend to have an extra battery, especially if extensively using the phone's features.
