From the 91 freeway, exit Lincoln Avenue and head south for 3 miles. Then turn west on Chase Ave and then Left on Skyline Drive. The trialhead begins at the front gate.
The total elevation gain/loss is 3,200 feet and the round trip mileage is 14.5 miles. 4.8 miles into the trail will you come upon Oak Flats. Soon after make a right at the junction, as the road going left takes you to Main Divide Road. At this point follow the trail until the radio facility atop Sierra Peak is reached.
Good shoes, plenty of water and some snacks. Make sure to bring a camera.
If you have information about this route that doesn't pertain to any of the other sections, please add it here.

new routeThe route to the Skyline Dr. trailhead has changed partially due to a new housing developement. From the 91 freeway take Lincoln south to Foothill. Go right at the traffic signal onto Foothill. Just before Foothill dead ends, park at or near the concrete overpass. There's a large sign for the Skyline trail on the left side at the overpass. It directs hikers around, and behind, the new housing tract on a paved asphalt walkway. Stay on the pavement to the locked gate, then go through. A ranger told me that these "new" homeowners are not happy with this trailhead access. Respect their right to peace and quiet and leave only footprints. As always.
