Re: NICE!!We did. Thanks. Unfortunately, some people were too cold and tired to go all the way to the official top, but it was awesome none the less. We laid down a real nice trail for whoever comes up next, so if you've got the time, I'd say go for it.

Re: NICE!!Thanks...I we have talked about Tumbledown in the winter! How's the road to the trailhead? I heard it is not plowed...and there's the stupid bridge that's really nothing more than two boards across the road...any problems there?
Baldpate was WONDERFUL actually...nice day. We hit W. Peak...and headed towards E. Peak..but, got turned back; first, there's one area right before you go back UP...that is REALLY steep..and had about 4-5 feet of snow...with a tree across the bottom of it. We were concerned if we tried to "slide" down...we'd get burried or wedged under the tree. Besides, we couldn't really see if that was the trail once we got down there.
As for the trail...it was well broken right to the leanto...the, it was all us.

Re: NICE!!Byron road is plowed to within a mile (give or take) of the Brook Trail trailhead. The snowmobilers have packed down the snow on the road beyond there so that it's a pretty easy walk to the trail and the bridge was actually fine. There was enough room for us to go across two at a time and not worry about slipping off. As you get close to the pond, there are about three stretches that are pretty steep and I was glad my snowshoes had climbing bars. We all made it up without major wipeouts and I don't think any of us except the trip leaders had snowshoed before.
