Overview
Monte Brione....a fragment of Mediterranean sea wedged in the Alps
Monte Brione grows upon the northermost point of the Garda lake, already belonging to Trentino.
Its cuneiform and isolated shape grows over the Sarca plan and looks like a lookout of the big lake.
Some name it
a fragment of Mediterranean sea wedged in the Alps and Goethe extolled the fabolous panorama in his
Viaggio in Italia
The main characteristics of this mountain in not its highness (only 376m) but its sub-mediterranean flora and fauna (peculiar of this small area) placed in different environments : the wood, the bushes, the dry meadows, the secular olive groves, and, of course, the rocks.
It is considered a nature reserve and is sheltered as
biotype by Trentino region as dry zone, it hosts about 33% of the
729 botanic species registered in Trentino and
25 different orchids
Viaggio in Italia.
geology
Its structure is made of bedded sedimentary rocks, in the older part there are marlstones and clays, over them limestones and sandstones.
Between the layers, slanted to NW, many sea organisms fossils.
