Approach
Youll need your own car, preferably a 4x4 for this one.
From Zabljak, hit the main road to the South toward Savnik.
Beneath Kraguljac turn right/westbound to Virak, drive further -
youll have to pass ski chairlifts leading to Savin Kuk (2313m elevation)
and folow the windy unpaved road. After a sharp right/left curve look at the
right side of the road untill you see the red posts and marks indicating
trail start for Bobotov Kuk, Uvita greda etc. Now you have to park your car
somewhere.
Route Description
Once at Sedlo, you are already at 1908m elevation.
Elevation difference till Bobotov Kuk is just over 600m without
any noteful technical difficulties enroute. Driving the macadam road apart,
this is the easiest route to Bobotov Kuk, highest peak of the Durmitor mountain. One may break the hike into 2 stages:
1. Vrata-Zeleni Vir lake
2. Zeleni Vir-Bobotov kuk
Vrata- Zeleni vir, hiking trail leads you northbound between Vjetrena brda
and Zupci. Zupci are sharp rocks looking like a woolf teeths. Youll see them on your right. At Zeleni Vir (2024m, highest lake in what used to be Yugoslavia) water source is waiting for you.
Further trail takes you steep uphill between Soa, the favourite peak of mine, on your left and Bobotov Kuk up and above your nose.
Prepare yourself for a bit of scramble in the last stage of ascend.
Sedlo-Bobotov kuk and back can be done in 6 hours or so without pushing yourself too much...
Essential Gear
Its not a technical one, but you would need a common sence,
a topomap - please reffer to miscelanous info section on the main
Durmitor page regarding this one - and a standard highmountain equipment; high hiking boots, rain protection, battery, enough food for
a day, smile on your face.
