We drove to Desert Peak from the south along the railroad. It took 4 hours from our house in Salt Lake to setting up camp in Dell's Canyon. There were Many deer hunters in the area which suprised us. We also saw a herd of bighorn sheep which was very cool.
We climbed the ridge south of Dell's Canyon and folled that west up to near the top. There is no trail but the route-finding is fairly easy. We were unable to get to the top because it was just too steep and there were lots of loose rock. Maybe if we'd had a rope.
The hike up and back took a little over 4 hours. We then drove back to Salt Lake. There was a trail on the tracks blocking the road but the friendly railroad workers directed us around it.
