In March 06, I spent a weekend in Joshua Tree with Kathy, who lives in Bishop, and Pat, who lives in Yucca Valley. Pat tried to call me before I left Santa Cruz for Joshua Tree, to tell me it was snowing hard at her house and maybe this wasn't the weekend to be cimbing in Joshua Tree. It was too late as I was already on the road. Also, Pat couldn't reach Kathy. However, Kathy and I had already decided that we would go ahead and go to Joshua Tree. If the weather was really bad we didn't need to climb, but could hike instead.
On Saturday Pat had to work so Kathy and I climbed in 'full on Scottish conditions.' It would start to snow; about the time we would decide enough was enough it would stop snowing. We climbed some easy stuff, so I could concentrate on mock leading, then practiced self-rescue skills, rescuing Mr. Rope Bag. It was cold, but not too cold.
On Sunday, Pat was with us and it stopped snowing. We were able to climb, wearing many layers.
These are a few of the pictures I took at Belle Camp and Moose Dog Tower on Sunday. I think it turned out to be a pretty good weekend!!
