I picked up my friends from down the street at 9 am and drove to the Sandia Crest parking lot. We began our hike close to 10:30 am with only a few small clouds hanging in the east. The trail was mainly flat and downhill, providing spectacular views of the peaks along the crest. We overshot the unmarked trail by a third of a mile. By the time we realized our mistake, we were at the Del Agua Overlook gazing up at North Sandia Peak from the north. We passed the trail one more time before finding it. The clouds were growing quickly above our heads so we booked it to the summit, took pictures, and got back underneath the trees before the clouds got too dark. The climb back up was a little tough, but we managed to make it back to the car by noon.
