Approach
The starting point is the parking space in
the valley Debantal on the altitude around 1700m. The valley Debantal is approachable from the city
Lienz.
Description
From the valley Debantal From the parking space you go across a river and start ascending over nice pasture. Soon you come in the nice forest where the marked route nicely going up and up over the steep slopes. On the altitude around 1900m you come out of the forest and over nice grassy slopes you reach
a beautiful meadow, 2105m. There is also a small lake.
From the meadow you ascend some more meters to the crossing with the marked route that comes from the
Lienzer hut, 1977m. You turn to the right and cross the rocky slopes below the faces of
Feldkopf, 2721m. When you come at the end of the crossing you ascend over the steep ravine to the notch
Unt. Seescharte, 2533m. The route does not go up directly but in nice switchbacks.
From here a beautiful view opens to the both lakes,
Kreuzsee and
Wangenitz-See. You also see a hut
Wangenitzsee hut, 2508m. From the notch you descend around 50 meters and over the ridge between both lakes you come to the hut. We need around 2-3 hours to the hut from the Debantal.

The view to the glacier
From the hut we follow the signposts behing the hut for
Petzeck. First we must cross the long slopes in the east direction where at the end of the crossing we must climb the short airy ridge with the help of iron ropes. Then we ascend over the nice grassy hills all the way up to the start of the basin
Kruckel Kar where we turn to the right and over the steep rocky face (around UIAA I some places) we reach
the higher plateau, 3136m.
From here we cross the rocky ridge to the start of very short and small part of the glacier. We do not have any problems with crossing. After crossing we have around 100 meters of ascent over rocky slope to the summit of
Petzeck, 3283m. From the hut we need around 2-3 hours.
We descend by the sam route.

Good hiking shoes and helmet, a lot of water in hot days.
