Great hike. We started at the Tamarack Lake Trailhead near Packer Lake. the trail starts up a rough road. Once Tamarack Lakes are visible the trail ascends and it becomes a nice simple hiking trail. You follow this up to where it intersects the PCT and from there you head south to Sierra Buttes. Overall a fairly easy trail with some elevation gain. At the end there is a whole lot of stairs up to the fire lookout. Its well worth it because the view is amazing. We could even see Lassen but just barely. There was some haze in the sky.
