final Catskill peak
hiked Blackhead Mtn via the Blackdome Mtn trail from Big Hollow. The snow base was at or near 3 ft given the recent late winter storms that have hit the region.
I planned a late start so as not to have to break trail as I was solo. Breaking trail would have been exhausting and may not have summited had I had to break trail.
As it was I had intended to hike up the Batavia Kill trail to the escarpment and then come down the Blackdome trail - a nice loop. On the ascent when i reached the junction with the Batavia Kill trail i saw the trail had not been broken and was blanketed by a couple feet of snow. As the Blackdome trail was broken, I ascended that route to the summit and returned.
The hike was a slog as it was a sunny and clear day with temps in mid to high 30s. The snow melt was sticking to my snowshoes and snowbaskets on my trekking pole which slowed and fatigued me some.
This was my final Catskill (37th) peak so I will now submit my paper work to the Catskill 3500 Club and look to receive a certificate along with a member number and patch

First Catskills hike
Coming from the whites and the dacks, these peaks were no slacks. The views weren't the best, but you can't have it all.

Winter ascent #1
Required Winter Summit for Catskill 35ers. This was my first of the 4 Winter Summits and a fabulous one at that. About 10 inches of snow on the ground at the trailhead with close to 14" near the Summit. Beautiful day, 11F starting out and concluding at 28F. Quick snowshoe/hike, up and back 4hrs. Brought crampons but didn't need them.

Blackhead, Dome and Thomas Cole w/ Camel Hump
Great hike with spectacular fall foliage! Black Dome was the best scramble of the three, in my opinion. Not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. 6hrs round trip with a couple breaks on the Summits.

final stop of the day
Took two and a half hours hiking in from the west (Barnum Road trailhead). At least the summit was clearly delineated by the trail intersection.

Great winter hike
Did the Blackhead range with three friends. Great weather, not too much ice. Microspikes were sufficient (barely, at times), and I was glad we had one ice axe to share between us.

Blackhead-Windham hike
Went over the Blackhead range and Windham with two friends. Had called a taxi to pick us up at the end to drive us back to our car, but it left us stranded! Was thankfully able to get a ride from another hiker.

That's some cold s--t!
Is there a name for the disease of the brain that causes people to obsessively bushwack all peaks- even those with perfectly good trails to the top?
I did this bushwack in the summer and decided it would be even nicer in the winter when everything is frozen in place and covered with snow. Boy- it was cold, my sandwich a frozen block. But the great views made it all worth while.
Approach was from the south.

Climbed with Black Dome and Thomas Cole via the Black Dome Range Trail from Big Hollow Road. A nice spring day to be out in the woods. Excellent views from the ledge on the trail leading up to the summit.

from Big Hollow Road
Hit Black Dome, Thomas Cole and Blackhead from Big Hollow road. Descended Blackhead on N. side via Escarpment Trail - very icy, would have used a rope if I had brought one. Lots of fresh snow, kept snowshoes on all day.
