Where's the snow?
Went looking for snow, found dirt and wind. Some snow in the shade, icy and thin. Snow in the trees, almost none on the standard route.

Castle Pass / east side of east turret
Hiked up with my wife Anna; it was warm with a gentle breeze to the west. The down-climb of the east turret was spookier than I remembered, but quite do-able. We saw a lot of flying spider webs and tons stuck in the trees on the hike down, bizarre?
Route Climbed: Castle Pass / east side of east turret Date Climbed: May 22, 2004 - Successful!
Solo hike; good snow coverage though the valley below made the cross country to Castle pass easy. Got very windy as I climbed the west ridge though; it was very windy on top too. Fun class three scramble on the east side of the east turret (summit block).

Lots of Early Snow
Did the 4th class summit-block as well as the other high points, then over to Basin Peak. Found a fun little chute up the face.
3rd time!snow from green gate to base of ridge/nice trail to top. good views with lassen in the distance.first hike back for my girl after she had our daughter 2 months ago. used to have a summit register, couldn't find one! checked everywhere. 4th cl. route up east summit block...
been up here a couple times - just over 2.5 hours from SF, an easy skin up to the saddle and then short climb to the summit. great sw-facing turns in the spring. prob the quickest place from the city to get on your skis.

Great snowshoe'n
A great peak for snowshoeing or winter camping. Even as out of shape as I am I made the northern tower in just under 2.5 hours from the snow park. Great views and plenty of shoots to climb and runouts to practice self arrest.

Great Day
Snowshoed to south ridge, traversed over towards summit block. Had to descend then hike back up to summit block. Climbed class 3 south side of summit. Clear skies, fantastic views, Lassen was in clear view to the north.

East Turret
Icy snowshoe up the West ridge. Very enjoyable scramble/climb up the east turret (the true summit). Rock is solid, but some chunks did come off from the party above us. Wear a helmet or climb one at a time. Beautiful views of other Tahoe peaks, Lassen and Diablo.
