Overview
Maybe te most usual path to Begunjscica
Getting There
From Highway Kranj-Jesenice through Begunje direction Draga. Good road (maybe on some places tight).
Route Description
We can live the car on a smaller Park places after restaurant Draga. About 200 m from restaurant is a small crossroad, where we find marks for both direction (Preval and Roblek). Because we choose a nicer road to go up, our decision is Preval.
The road goes throw the valley of affluent small river Begunjscica, not very steep, but almost all time in a slope. The half of path to Praval we here nice murmur of water, on a way we see also two small waterfalls (about 10 to 15m high).
The path is in this part to Preval through the wood, so is very convenient choice also for summer days, when the temperature in cities exceeds 30 degrees.
After a good hour (marked is 1,5 hour) we arrive to mountain pasture Preval, where we find a nice hut with home made products from milk as cheese or cottage cheese. The look to Veliki vrh (top of Begunjscica) is very nice, but next part of path is steeper and also a wood isn't so rich with shadow, When we come near to the ridge, the wood disappear, but we are almost 2.000 m high and also a heat in the summer isn't so hard anymore.
On top of Veliki vrh is a table with marked directions to other mountains, so when we have a nice day, we can see almost half of Slovenia and also a big part of Austria. From Draga to Preval is marked 3h (altitude about 1.200m).
Next part of our way goes through south slope of Begunjscica in west direction, after one hour we rich a nice hut »Roblekova koca«, very known in Slovenia because of a song from »Ansabel bratov Avsenik« with title: »Na Roblek bom odsel« (I'll go to Roblek).
The last part of our road goes constantly downwards, almost all time through the wood, a small part on end also on a wood road. Between we can rich some air also in hut »Planinca« (altitude 1137m), where we can also see some cars from not so courageous mountaineers.
After 5 hours of nice walk we are on parking by our car, prepared for new challenges in our daily life.
