Eiger Climbing Video!

Good morning to you all

Ever since reading Heinrich Harrer's inspiring and classic mountaineering book “The White Spider” many years ago, it has been an ambition of mine to climb the infamous and iconic Eiger in Grindelwald, Bernese Oberland in Switzerland. However being a climber of rather modest abilities, the classic traverse ascending via the superbly exposed Mittellegi Ridge whilst descending by the South Ridge and traversing the North + South Eigerjoch's was the most realistic option for me!

So after a most splendid, but wallet-crunching ride on the Jungfraujoch railway and poking around the pitch-black tunnels of the Eismeer station with my 2 partners in crime , an attempt was made starting on August 20th and for anyone interested, the following is a short 5 minute HD film of our 2 day adventure:

If you wish to sample the full High Def experience and your computer has enough va va voom, you should be able to change the "Quality" icon to at least 720p HD in the bottom right hand corner on the You Tube screen. Anyway any constructive feedback or comments welcome and hopefully it will inspire a few folks to climb this superb route and visit this amazing area!

Cheers and happy climbing! :-)

Dave

Wow!!!

I was in Lauderbrunnen Switzerland 2 months ago and got to admire the Eiger from Jungfrau Hoch! What a beautiful mountain. Congratulations to you. It looked like it was a difficult climb!

Excellent video clip...

...and as you say, one to remember.
Can I suggest you put in a primary image for this page and link it to hansw's Eiger Mittellegi Ridge route page - then more people would get to see it?
best wishes, Mark

Re Excellent video clip...

Hey Mark many thanks for your kind words and advice! I'm new to summitpost and have linked my video to hansw's excellent page but have yet to work out how to add a primary image. When I try to edit the page and add a primary image it jumps to another page almost immediately! Any idea what I'm doing wrong? :-)

Re: Re Excellent video clip...

Hi - welcome to Summit Post!

You seem to have worked it out re primary image - stands out much better now.

re posting on SP generally: I am not one of the experts, but found the tutorials on the latest version a complete 'must' for the new editor, which came out earlier this year. If you click on 'create page' and select an option (e.g. trip report, article etc) then you get offered the option below:

http://www.summitpost.org/new-editor-spv3-tutorial/837538

This is very good to get you started. The other option is go into the Forum and find the one on Page help. You may find a thread which answers your question, or just ask your question - and you will get answered by the site experts or referred to an appropriate source of information.

best wishes, Mark

PS - I stumbled across your reply by accident. If you want to make sure a reply gets back to someone click on option 'reply' - then the person you are replying to gets a notification

PPS - Presume you have read the 'New to Summit Post' section to be found on Home page in RH column?

Hi Mark and thanks for the welcome and advice! I'll have a look at the sections you mention over a cuppa when I get a spare 5 minutes! :-)

Re: Very nice trip report!

Cheers Eric and thanks a million for all your kind words. Ever since going into the mountains I've been a keen "point and shoot" photographer but in the last couple of years I've got into film-making as well. It is difficult to climb and film at the same time but hopefully my wee Bald Eagle Productions will continue to improve and I've some big plans for the year so watch this space! :-) Cheers Dave
Ps Feel free to subscribe if you want to keep up with the latest!
