climbed el diente via kilpacker creek on 6-14-03. followed route described in dawson vol. 2. 8 1/2 hours car to car. contrary to guidebooks, trail is quite easy to follow all the way to upper basin. there is in fact a junction sign (indicating navajo lakes one way and forest road the other way) at point where trail starts up kilpacker creek (300 yards before creek itself). little snow left in lower basin. good steep snow (crampons) from upper basin to 13,600'. ridge itself from intersection to summit 3rd class with some exposure. pics include views of approach to lower basin, ridge, crux, and summit.
