Approach
Turn on to Buttermilk Falls Rd. from Rt. 149. At 3.2 miles down this road the becomes Sly Pond Road and it turns to a dirt road. At the intersection with Hogstown Rd. continue straight ahread on Shelving Rock Road. The parking area is just past the parking area for the Lake George Trails System on the left hand side. There is a trailhead sign for Buck Mountain at this parking area.
Route Description
Total distance is one way is 2.3 miles
total ascent is 1,130 ft. This trail is level for some time and follows a stream for the better part of the first mile. At about 1.5 miles the trail begins to climb steeply on and off until the summit is reached at 2.3 miles.

Summer and fall: no special/techincal equipment needed.
Winter: snowshoes and/or crampons are needed.
