Re: Very nice!Thanks to all. The mythology says that the cut was realized by the sword of the legendary french hero Rolando, warrior of CarloMagno's troops. Certainly this is a pure invention but it informs about the attraction that it has generated this gap for centuries. Probably Rolando died in Roncesvalles's battle, in the Pyrenees of the north of Navarre, point of entry of the way of Santiago from Europe. Many other places have legendary names in the Pyrenees (the name of the mountainous chain comes from the greek goddess Pirene, lover of the great hero Hercules).

This route it's one of the most beautiful of Pyrenees, but is long (more than 6 hours to summit). A good option is to sleep in the night in refuge of Sarradets (4 hours) and climb the Taillon the next day. You can to rest in the refuge while you drink a beer (2,5 € !!) enjoying of the sights of the wonderfull cirque de Gavarnie and La Brecha (I close my eyes and I remember perfectly the instant)
It's one of my favorites pictures (and I had more than 5000 of the last 6 years in the mountains)

Enmarcado en el bellísimo Parque Nacional de Ordesa - Huesca, España -.

we did this last year from Gavarnie which gives a much shorter trip than via Torla but probably not so scenic.
We met a french guy Francois Bres(http://francois.bres.free.fr/ ) on the way up past the Sarradets hut and he knew the area well. He suggested that we do Taillon as well as just going to the Breche, which we did and really enjoyed it.

Re: Breche de RolandThe option from Gavarnie is most advisable (shortest), but for Spanish the approach in car is long. If you had more days is better the French option. The Spanish can to climb the Taillon in less of 2 days (a weeek-end) but it's hard (slope 1700m). It's long for us from France (3 days generally, you need holidays).
Examples (in car):
Madrid-Torla: 4h30m or 5h . Madrid-Gavarnie: 7h 30m or 8h. If you think about the return after the climb... 8h is horrible in a week-end (impossible the friday after the work the approach to Gavarnie but the option Torla is available or even climb to refuge of Sarradets the saturday after the travel in the morning). The route between Torla and Gavarnie in car needs 3h!!! (the road from Gavarnie to Bujaruelo through the Pyrenees was not built in the Spanish side but the French part can be used that was built to the French route).
In your holidays if you came from another country, the French option is the best as well in my opinion.

thanks for your comments, as we had decided to try Vignemale from the French side we decided to stay in Gavarnie, The Breche and Taillon was a bonus climb after an easy day walking up to the Cirque the day after we had done Vignemale.
