Approach


From Lupine Meadows at 6732' (see mainpage), take the Valley Trail for 1.7 miles and the well-maintained Amphitheater Lake trail for 4 switchbacking miles to the lake. The route is now apparent.

Route Description


Hike around the lake to its SW corner. Above, the ledges go easiest at the left edge. Picking your way up above timberline is continous Class 3 with several Class 4 moves and goes via a few different minor variations. A steep boulder field then leads to the Class 3 summit knob.

Essential Gear


Day hiking and scrambling gear. A dawn start is best due to large amount of gain.
