The highest peak of the Aferer Geisler, on the far right in this photo, is
Tullen (2653m). At 2813 m, the nearby Kleiner Peitlerkofel is a great vantage point to look down on it.
This view is from the northeast, viewing the northern slopes. As illustrated by the debris at the bottom, the rock quality is rather poor, and so the Aferer Geisler isn't climbed from the north.
I'm enjoying the scenery, but at the same time I'm looking at it with a special interest: I want to traverse it from left to right. More precisely, I want to follow the southern leg of the
Günther Messner Steig, a secured route that occasionally touches the crest, but mostly stays high on the southern slopes, which, for the most part, are not as steep as the north side.
